Percussion Day for Educators - WWU

The Washington State Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and Dr. Patrick Roulet of Western Washington University would like to invite you to attend a Percussion Day for current and future music educators on Saturday, March 4, 2017. The event will take place on the Western Washington University campus in Bellingham, WA. Five clinics will be presented that are geared towards expanding ensemble directors’ knowledge of percussion instruments. Both performance and maintenance aspects will be addressed. 

Cost of attendance is $40, $20 for students. 

Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Participants who preregister before March 1, 2017 will receive $5 off registration. 

Those who pre-register will receive both e-copies and physical copies of all clinic handouts.Participants who do not pre-register will receive e-copies of the handouts. 

Schedule:
8:30 Welcome and Registration: Coffee, tea, juice and light refreshments provided

9:00 Hands-on Snare Drum Techniques with Patrick Roulet
Fundamentals for snare drum techniques, tuning, and care and maintenance. Participants will be provided a practice pad and a snare drum to use during the workshop. 

10:00 A Musical Approach to Cymbal Techniques with William Wanser. Learn all about cymbals and how to teach playing the cymbals. 

11:00 Keyboard Percussion Techniques with Doctors in Resonance
Hands-on learning of keyboard percussion fundamentals, technique, mallet choice, and sight reading. 

12:00 Jazz Drumset 101 with Julian MacDonough
Simple teaching concepts to make your jazz drummer sound more like a pro.    

1:00 World Music Drumming Sampler with Patty Bourne
Celebrating two decades of instructional presence and actively taught in over 21,000 schools across the globe, World Music Drumming engages learners through the aural traditions associated with West African and Caribbean music making. Participants will experience a "sampler" of this dynamic curriculum.
