Percussion Day for Educators - PLU

The Washington State Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and Dr. Miho Takekawa of Pacific Lutheran University would like to invite you to attend a Percussion Day for current and future music educators on Saturday, March 11, 2017. The event will take place at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. Four clinics will be presented that are geared towards expanding ensemble directors’ knowledge of percussion instruments. Both performance and maintenance aspects will be addressed. 

Cost of attendance is $30, $15 for students. 

Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.  Those who pre-register will receive both e-copies and physical copies of all clinic handouts. Participants who do not pre-register will receive e-copies of the handouts. 

Schedule:
8:30    Welcome and Registration
    Coffee, tea, juice and light refreshments provided

9:00     Keyboard Percussion Techniques with Patrick Roulet
Hands-on learning of keyboard percussion fundamentals, technique, mallet choice, and sight reading. 

9:45    Instrument maintenance with Andrew Angell
Maintenance and care of percussion instruments that are commonly used in school settings will be covered. Proper care of the instruments and timely repairs prevents costly major repairs.

10:30     PLU Steel Pan and Percussion Ensembles (Refreshments-Door Prizes)

11:00     Jazz drumset with Mark Ivester. Simple teaching concepts to make your jazz drummer sound more like a pro.    

11:45 Timpani Fundamentals with Matt Decker, the new Assistant Principal Timpanist of the Seattle Symphony. Proper playing techniques for the timpani will be covered with emphasis on methods of teaching these techniques to school age students
